We’ve had quite a few hitches over the years, and with this particular setup – a Ram 3500 long bed and an Escape 24, I wouldn’t have thought such a relatively light trailer could cause an uncomfortable bouncing and porpoising over bumps. It is greatly improved over our 2500, so the truck suspension definitely made somewhat of a difference, but it still existed and it was still annoying. We adjusted our E2 weight distribution hitch, made it more and less stiff, and that seemed to help a little bit, but it was obvious what kind of damage that was likely, and would eventually, do to our trailer frame. So while cruising through Jamestown, ND, we stopped in to the factory, hoping to be able to just ask a few question and maybe find a nearby retailer for the product. To my surprise, they have an actual showroom and very, very helpful folks to chat with you, show you, ask all of your stupid questions, and even help you install a hitch if you pick one up! I went with the 20K, just because I’d rather buy this one time and never with I had more weight capacity. And after more than 1K miles, I can confidently say I wish I’d done this MUCH sooner. I was a little concerned about sway, though with the way we load the trailer, this is clearly not a concern. The ride quality is MAJORLY different now! All the little bumps and up/down motion that the trailer tongue wants to do, it’s allowed to do, just not sending that into the truck. We get maybe 4% of the previous bumps that we had previously, which are the larger dips, potholes, etc. but they’re also not porpoising us any longer because the energy is diffused into the bag. It took a second to figure out two things: adjusting the airbag properly, where the rubber bumper is just touching the metal plate (super easy), and that there was an extra spacer that I should have bolted on from the start for our truck that made the airbag ride just a little better (not too noticeable, but probably good for the long term). Otherwise, it’s just… perfect! I cannot believe I went so long without this. I wasn’t ready to believe the hype at first, but now I recommend it to everyone. And of course, nobody believes me and my hype. 😂 11/10 recommend. At least try it, these guys are confident in their product and there’s a great reason for it.

What does a Shocker Hitch do? A Shocker Hitch absorbs the road shock, bumps, bangs, jerks, tugs & sways by filtering them through a built in air ride system. When you hit a bump, you’re you’re changing the weight load placement. If you hit a bump, it’s going to put a lot of weight on the receiver hitch, which is going to take some weight off of the front tires, which then reduces your steering and braking. And then when the weight comes back, it’s going to lift the weight off and transfer the weight on the rear trailer tires, which is what creates sway. The nice thing about an air ride hitch is it absorbs this, which a normal hard connection between the pickup and trailer cannot do this. An air ride hitch naturally reduces the chances of trailer sway in addition to absorbing the bumps and jerks and tugs, making it easier and less stressful on you, your passengers, animals, truck, trailer, equipment and cargo.
