This shock absorbing hitch with air bag is the best cushioning device on the planet. The Shocker Air is a miniature air suspension unit mounted between your truck and trailer. This Shocker mounts by sliding into a standard receiver tube. Fits Pickup Trucks.

The air bag sits under the receiver tube allowing a short distance of 10-inches between mounting pin and ball center. You will find the advantage of the Air Shocker is your ability to adjust air pressure for best ride and load control. Fits standard 2″ receiver tube or 2-1/2″ receivers. Great for pickup trucks.

TestShock Dampening Action: Shocker air hitch effectively absorbs the jerking, tugging and damaging forces experienced with a typical hard connection when towing trailers. There is no reason to beat yourself or your equipment up with a hard connection between your trailer and your receiver hitch.

Choose from the Original Shocker Air and the Shocker HD. Original Shocker Air is rated at 12,000 lbs towing capacity and 1,200 lbs tongue weight. The Shocker HD is 16,000 lbs towing capacity and 1,600 lbs on tongue weight.

Provide Comfort: With a smoother ride! Travel a lot on concrete highways? No more jarring every time you cross a section divider. Your Shocker air hitch absorbs the thumps and bumps.

Simple Pivot Design: uses a rocker arm pivot design which produces a down and back motion, much different than other air hitches on the market. Our design eliminates the need for slides, parallel linkages, rollers, shock absorbers, or multiple air bags common to other air hitches.

Improves Safety: By giving you improved control of your tow vehicle and trailer. The air bag receiver hitch system allows for better control of your pickup and the trailer it is towing.

Saves Money: By reducing trailer breakage on both the trailer and the trailer contents! The Shocker hitch absorbs the damaging forces experienced with a typical hard connection. This greatly reduces the chances of breaking welds and doing other long term damage to your equipment as well as the valuable cargo you have inside the truck and trailer.

Adds Life To Your Vehicle: By reducing wear and tear on driveline and frame! Treat yourself, your equipment, and your passengers to a much smoother ride. You’ll never go back to the ‘old days’ of continual bumps, jerks, and vibrations. Join the list of satisfied customers that are using Shocker hitches. Shocker Air Bumper Hitch Installation Instructions

The Shocker Air Bag Hitch ball mount is easy to install.  It comes complete with easy to understand instructions along with everything you need.  You can download the installation instructions or view the video below.

  • Note: A Shocker with 2″ shank will not fit a 2-1/2″ receiver even with a sleeve. This is because trucks with a 2-1/2″ hitch have a deeper frame & the hitch that fits 2-1/2″ receiver is slightly deeper. However a Shocker with 2-1/2″ shank will fit a 3″ receiver with sleeve.

Note: Always use a good hitch ball with the proper recommended tow weight.

Safety Notice: The Shocker Hitch is a heavy duty unit that in most cases exceeds factory receiver hitch weight capacities, therefore it is imperative that you always read and follow the tongue and towing weight recommendations of the receiver hitch that is mounted on your tow vehicle.

Will the Shocker Air Bumper Hitch work with Equalizer or Weight-Distribution?  If you are just use sway bars that hook to a mini ball, then yes, if you order the combo sway control ball mount attachment  . If you have a equalizer or weight distribution hitch then it will not. However, check out our Air Equalizer for weight distribution hitches.

Note: A Shocker with 2″ shank will not fit a 2-1/2″ receiver even with a sleeve. This is because trucks with
a 2-1/2″ hitch have a deeper frame & the hitch that fits 2-1/2″ receiver is slightly deeper. However a
Shocker with 2-1/2″ shank will fit a 3″ receiver with sleeve.

Shocker Air Installation: First you must compress the air bag. Do this by depressing air valve and pushing down on air bag.
Once the bag has been compressed, you can install the unit into the receiver tube. Next install hitch pin.

To Set Air: Hook up trailer using properly selected ball adaptor and height adjustment in order to a level trailer when loaded. Next, inflate the air bag. As air pressure increases, the unit will rotate lifting the hitch point. Install enough air to lightly compress top bushing or until bump stop clearance is approximately 1/8″.

Additional Set Up Notes:

  • When towing heavy trailers or trailers with high wind resistance it may be necessary to increase air pressure in the Shocker.
  • It is highly recommended that the hitch ball be greased to reduce wear and improve shocker action.
  • DO NOT TIGHTEN THE TOP BOLT, IT IS A LIMITER STOP ONLY.

Maximum Air Pressure: Do not exceed 100 psi in the air bag, as it may damage the air bag.

FAQ

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

How much air do I put in the Shocker Air Bumper Mount Receiver Hitch?
With your trailer hooked up to the tow vehicle, and loads positioned for transport, air up shocker until main frame rotates and lightly compresses top bushing (about 1/8″ of squeeze or pinch in the bushing). See our quick How To Set PSI in Shocker Bumper Hitch Video.

Will the Shocker Air Bumper Hitch work with Equalizer or Weight-Distribution?  If you are just use sway bars that hook to a mini ball, then yes, if you order the combo sway control ball mount attachment. If you have a equalizer or weight distribution hitch then it will not. However, check out our Air Equalizer for weight distribution hitches.  Note: If your pickup suspension can handle the weight of your trailer and doesn’t “squat” when you hook up your trailer to pickup, then you really don’t need a weight distribution hitch. A load leveling weight distribution hitch, distributes the weight between the pickup and trailer and is generally used if your pickup can’t handle the static trailer tongue weight load.

How long will it hold air? This is a sealed system that will hold air for weeks or months. If you haul the same trailer with the same load weight, it should be good for quite some time.

How long will the airbag last? Our airbags are an industrial bag and will last for years and years. They are similar to truck airbags but have been beefed up internally for our towing applications.

I have a 3″ receiver hitch? will this work?  Yes, you would order the air hitch with 2-1/2″ shank and then get a reducer sleeve that goes down from 3″ to 2 1/2″.

How do I know the Shocker Air receiver hitch will fit my truck?
We have made sure that the receiver air shocker will fit into most Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota and SUV’s. There are some clearance issues with the Chevy Envoy, Ford Explorer, some imports and service body vehicles where the body extends below the receiver tube. The use of “reducer” sleeves on trucks with a 2 1/2″ receiver tube is not recommended. The Shocker Air receiver hitch is available in a 2″, 2 1/2″ & 3″ shank. Please indicated which vehicle you intend to use the hitch with, make/model/year and we will attempt to get you a great fitting hitch.

How far below my pickup does the receiver air shocker hang?
Five inches below bottom of receiver tube.

How often do I grease it?
The grease does not just lube the pivot; it also keeps water and dirt out. You cannot over grease it, once every few months should do it.

Does the receiver air hitch work like or with an equalizer hitch?
No.

Does the receiver air hitch work with sway bars?
Yes, it works with the friction style sway control, however you want to order one of the ballmount attachments that has the sway tabs installed.

How does the Receiver hitch work?
The Receiver air shocker is like a teeter totter. One end is an air bag, a pivot in the middle, and a ball at the other end. This gives a “pillow” effect at the ball end.

Should I tighten up the top jam nut on the receiver shocker?
No. The air shocker needs at least one half inch of play to work properly.

How much does an Shocker Air bag receiver hitch weigh?
The Receiver Air Shocker weighs 40 pounds

Questions and answers of the customers

  1. A Our products have a 1 year warranty
  2. A No you would want airbags on your truck suspension for that.
  3. A If you have equalizer bars and want to keep your weight distribution you would want our Shocker Air Equalizer - https://shockerhitch.com/product/air-equalizer/ If you are just looking for sway control, then our Air Receiver hitch will work great.
  4. A This has a very solid frame but you can take the bump cushions and airbag off with a few nuts and bolts so yes you could powdercoat it.
  5. A At this time no hitch mounted mud flaps will work with our air bag hitches. However, our cushion hitches will work with hitch mounted mud flaps.
  6. A No, the HD hitch allows for up to 16K so if you are towing a lighter weight you would just reduce the air pressure in the air bag. The 16K is better overall than the 12K because it gives you more capability.
  7. A The transit time to Penna (Pittsburgh) is 3 days transit time from North Dakota.
  8. A Yes, you will want to order the one that fits the 2-1/2" hitch and then use a adapter sleeve. Then it will work great.

I’ve purchased two hitches from Shockerhitch, the Shocker Air Receiver hitch with a 2-1/2″ receiver and it was the BEST thing I ever did for pulling a trailer [pull behind travel trailer]. You notice the difference right away and immediately realize that it was money very well spent. For another truck, an occasional puller [so I pull the hitch out when not using], I purchased a Shocker XR drop ball mount hitch. Both are solidly built, both have excellent craftsmanship.

  2. George Oliver

So glad we got this air ball mount for our 2020 silverado. It pulls our race trailer so so nice. Wish I would have found this years ago. Way easier on my back. Especially when travelling a long distance.

  3. Brokemanlogging (verified owner)

Excellent quality hitch wish I had one years ago. Will continue to have my business. If you want something that is built to last this is the product for you.

  4. David Jacobson

My camper has never towed so nicely. Huge improvement with this bumper air hitch. You can’t feel the camper and our stuff inside isn’t all over the floor anymore. Very smooth.

  5. Rhonda & Brad Culpitt

We recently purchased our second Shocker a hitch. We first purchased in 2014, this hitch has been nothing short of exceptional. Our recent and second purchase was due to an upgrading a trailer size and heavy capacity. Very pleased with the quality of both units and well worth the cost for the improved ride and reduced wear on our truck. CS has been more than helpful in both purchases and lightning quick shipping.

  6. K G (verified owner)

So far so good. I have it on my 2020 F350 DRW. Matched up perfectly with the stock 2 1/2 receiver hitch. Pulled a 16foot trailer with a car on it. SMOOTH!

  7. Shannon Read (verified owner)

This is the second shocker hitch I have purchased and the second one is even better than the first. Chrome plating of pins and the combo hitch are a welcome to avoid rust. Once you pull a trailer with this hitch you will never go back to the old system

  8. TIM GOINS (verified owner)

GAME CHANGER – no more tugging and no more pushing. I absolutely love my new hitch. When I look in my rearview mirror, my boat T-top is no longer moving and shaking. The difference that I see with save TONS of wear and tear on my boat, trailer and my NECK.

  9. Adam Z. (verified owner)

I’ve only had my Shocker Air Receiver Hitch (2″/12,000lb) for about 2 weeks now, but it is amazing! This is the nicest hitch I’ve owned in my 42 years! I towed a 9,000 lb cargo trailer 1,089 miles with this on my 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali, and the ride was smooth and quiet the whole way. Years ago when I towed a trailer cross country with a standard drop hitch, the ride was rough and sketchy the whole way. Thank you, Shocker Hitch, for helping to make my trip a comfortable and smooth one.

  10. Khaled Shabany (verified owner)

Our towing vehicle is a 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 (Diesel) and our camper is a 25′ travel trailer with a dry weight of about 4200lbs. I did notice a significant improvement but it did not completely eliminate the jerkiness of the ride even with multiple adjustments. I wish there was a ‘scale’ or a way to way to determine the amount of compression. Also, it seems like the metal retaining the bumper material is very close and could be limiting the amount of absorption. Some design modifications would really help make this a perfect towing hitch.

  11. Wayne Erdman (verified owner)

The best hitch I have ever used. For years I has the B&W turn over receiver hitch, and sorry I did not covert sooner to the Shocker Hitch.

  12. Andrew White

The ShockerHitch was recommended by a friend. The camper dealer I bought my RV from had never heard of it, but when they saw it and they were very impressed. My first trip included travelling over a winding mountain pass. The hitch made the trip very smooth and easy. Instead of jarring over bumps it was a smooth nudging sensation. Glad I bought it. Heading out for a long trip soon, will report back if any updates on performance.

  13. Austin

Amazing product. Took out all of the bumps and jerking that I feel while towing my rough North Dakota roads.

  14. Dan Sheldon (verified owner)

I haven’t gotten it out of the box yet, but I know that it will be everything that I have hoped for. Will send an e-mail after having used it once or twice. Really looking forward to less bouncy-bouncy.

  15. Darrell Haynes (verified owner)

Best hitch I’ve ever had. Take the trailer surge away. Money well spent.

  16. Bruce Morse (verified owner)

  18. Danny Ferguson (verified owner)

Works great, as soon as it arrived we left with our boat, Atlanta to Daytona and back 1000 miles of Flawless towing , Very Smooth as Expected. Thanks Team Shocker!
We make the trip to Florida over 40 times a year .
A lot of people ask about the Shocker at the ramp .
Please send a pair of stickers for my truck and boat.
    All the best

What a welcomed relief for towing my equipment trailer empty especially. Having a tilt trailer to move my equipment from job to job, the axles need to be positioned forward of the tilt point on the deck and inevitably causes trailer slap when empty. This hitch takes all of that unnecessary bucking out of the ride with a simple air adjustment. Great product that will save your towing vehicle too!! Get one today, it’s well worth it.

  20. Frank Estes (verified owner)

It’s a great addition lots smoother ride

  21. James (verified owner)

Love the hitch. We pull everything from 16ft to 32ft tri-axle enclosed trailers. Huge difference in how it pulls and rides.

  22. Megan K

Recently purchased one of these for towing a two horse bumper pull with my Silverado 1500. I have PTSD from a severe car accident and previously had a lot of anxiety towing, exacerbated by the bumps and clunks that come with pulling a trailer. The hitch made my ride so much smoother and more comfortable, I was amazed by the difference. It eased a lot of the stress that I had about hitching up. I’m now EXCITED about hauling places!! Thank you so much for the FANTASTIC product!

  23. Lejon Gines (verified owner)

I bought this hitch because I hauled some hay in Colorado and the roads were so bad I thought I was going to bust my receiver and the tongue on my trailer. As soon as I got the hitch I loaded up my trailer with my tractor and drove down the roughest road I could find next to my house and the results were amazing. I had driven down this road before with the same load about 5 mph and the trailer was throwing the pickup all over, but that is not the case anymore. I drove down the road at 35 mph and I couldn’t tell the trailer was behind me. There is complete separation of shock from the pickup and trailer and it makes the ride almost unbelievably comfortable. I highly recommend the shocker hitch to anyone that pulls a trailer.

  24. Paul Kahlon (verified owner)

I was debating on whether to go with the Shocker Hitch or the Gen-Y Torision Flex hitch. I’m so glad I chose the Shocker because you’re able to adjust the air pressure according to the tongue weight to gain the maximum results. In my case, the tongue weight varies all the time; some days it’ll be 700 pounds, on other days it’ll be closer to 1,600 pounds (I have a Weigh Safe hitch that I utilize to dial in the tongue weight). Most people would assume the Shocker will only work well with a decent amount of tongue weight on it; I can attest to the fact that it works really well even when the trailer is empty.
I pull an open deck car hauler quite frequently and it has a tendency to really give everything a good shake when it’s empty. While driving over bumps and bad roads, I could clearly see the trailer going up and down (in the Duramax tow mirrors) on it’s own because of the Shocker; I didn’t feel the bucking and jarring of the trailer. I live out in California and we’ve got some serious road “transitions” to counteract the negative effects of earthquakes. Before I had this hitch, the truck would go over that “transition”, then afterwards there would be this jarring effect once the trailer would cross over. Now, the trailer just glides over as if ain’t back there.
I recently did a roundtrip from California to Texas and back, and all I can say is the ride was smooth both loaded and empty (I adjusted the air pressure as needed); trailer was nonexistent. I really should invest in some suspension upgrades for the truck though because the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks are no joke when it comes to having stiff suspensions which you can get tired/annoyed of fairly quick.
On a side note, I rode in a 1/2 ton after the longest time and I was so jealous of the ride. Mind you, this 1/2 ton was stock and rode super smooth. I would assume the ride of a 1/2 ton towing with a Shocker Hitch would be serene.
In short, it feels as though the trailer isn’t there. Since the Shocker “absorbs” the trailer, I just feel the truck; if I were to do some suspension upgrades on the truck (for example, better shocks), that 3/4 ton ride would feel even better.
All in all, I would highly recommend investing in the Shocker Air Receiver Hitch. If you’ve got a heavy duty truck, I’d go with the 16K rated version because you never know when you might need that extra capacity.
If you’re concerned about the 16K version being overkill and not having the same effect on a lighter trailer, rest assured because both the 12K and 16K hitches provide the same amount of “cushion”; the 16K version is able to handle/support more weight. This was confirmed by the representatives over at Shocker Hitch who are second to none when it comes to customer service.
For me, the extra cost to purchase the 16K version was completely worth it simply because I have enough leeway between various weights.

  25. Brian (verified owner)

I purchased the Shocker Air Receiver Hitch (2.5″ receiver / 16,000 lb. / 4 to 7.5″ drop with 2 5/16″ ball / Sway control) to use with my new race car trailer. We picked up the trailer in Wynnewood, OK and towed it back to Chattanooga, TN (868 miles one way). The highway (I-40) between OK and TN are as you can imagine in horrendous shape for long stretches. I’ve towed trailers all over and can tell you without hesitation I SHOULD HAVE PURCHASED THIS HITCH YEARS AGO. The difference it makes in ride comfort and reduced wear and tear on by truck cannot be overstated. I’ve tried other “high-end” hitches before and none come close. I you don’t have one of these you’re missing out and causing undue wear and tear on your drive train.

    Highly recommended.
