The Shocker Impact Cushion Hitch with Channel Pintle Hook and Ball has a hitch base rated at 14,000 lb GTW and 1,400 lb TW. The selected ball or any lower-rated component can reduce the setup limit, as detailed above. It offers a versatile adjustable drop range from a 1″ rise to 6-1/2″ drop, allowing for flexibility in various towing configurations. The hitch includes a choice between a 2″ ball with a 12,000 lb towing capacity or a 2-5/16″ ball with a 16,000 lb towing capacity, and the pintle hook is compatible with 6″ OD x 2-1/2″ to 3″ ID pintle rings, making it suitable for a wide range of trailers, including military-style hitches.

Impact Cushion Hitch: Drop, Rise & Tow Ratings

Hitch base limits: Impact: 14,000 lb trailer weight / 1,400 lb tongue weight. Impact Max: 20,000 lb trailer weight / 2,000 lb tongue weight.

Never exceed the lowest applicable gross trailer weight or tongue-weight rating of any component in your towing setup. Evaluate each limit separately. Attachment ratings do not increase the hitch base’s ratings. In the table, each pair means maximum trailer weight / maximum tongue weight in pounds. Attachment ratings do not increase the hitch base rating.

Use this guide for the corresponding Impact or Impact Max cushion hitch and attachment. Verify the rating on your hitch base; attachment ratings do not raise the base rating.

Sway-control-tab mounts: Use the range and ball rating for the corresponding combo, drop or raised ball mount. Confirm compatibility with your selected hitch.

No Ball Mount: A compatible, properly rated attachment is required for towing; the base alone does not provide a towing connection.

Choose the drop or rise your trailer needs

Measure on level ground with the trailer level. “Level” means zero drop or rise. How to choose the right drop hitch (opens in a new tab).

Follow the lowest rating: These are attachment ratings, not a guarantee of your complete hitch capacity. Never exceed the lowest applicable trailer-weight or tongue-weight limit of the vehicle, receiver, hitch base, attachment, ball or trailer. A higher-rated attachment does not increase a lower-rated hitch base’s capacity. Use the marked tongue-weight rating; it is not calculated from towing capacity.

Drawbar, cushioned drawbar and SH-360 clevis: 0 lb vertical tongue load; these mounts are not for use with a hitch ball.

Legacy attachment: The bolt-on pintle hook SH-331-332 is discontinued. Its row is retained for existing owners; confirm the label and instructions for your exact attachment.

Note: Towing capacity is limited by lowest rated component. Never exceed the lowest applicable gross trailer weight (GTW) or tongue weight (TW) limit of the vehicle, receiver, hitch base, attachment, ball or trailer. A higher-rated attachment does not increase the hitch base rating. Follow the labels on your actual equipment.

Install and set the height

Choose the correct connection. Match the receiver size, attachment and trailer coupler. Measure the drop or rise needed with the vehicle and trailer on level ground.
Install the hitch base. Insert the shank into the vehicle receiver and secure it with a 5/8-inch hitch pin (not included). The base can be upright for more drop or flipped for more rise.
Set the attachment height. Use the seven adjustment holes to position the attachment. Install the attachment pins and retaining clips, connect the trailer and check that the trailer is level.

Impact Max hitch upright for more drop and flipped for more rise — Impact™ and Impact Max™ can be installed upright or flipped. Available drop and rise depend on the attachment.

Seven height positions

Remove the retaining clips and attachment pins to change the attachment or height, then reinstall the pins and clips.

Factory-set top jam nut

Do not tighten the top jam-nut bolt. It is factory-set; overtightening can make the hitch ride more stiffly.

Measure for a level trailer

On level ground, level the trailer. Measure A from the ground to the top of the receiver opening, and B to the bottom of the trailer coupler.

A > B: drop needed. 23 − 19 = 4-inch drop.
A < B: rise needed. 20 − 22 = 2-inch rise.
A = B: level connection.

Connect the trailer, then recheck and adjust for a level trailer. See the drop/rise measuring guide.

Anti-rattle kit: included with both 2-inch models

Included anti-rattle U-bolt and plate installed on a 2-inch Impact receiver hitch — Impact kit shown. Use the supplied kit for your model; these instructions cover the 2-inch Impact™ and 2-inch Impact Max™.

The anti-rattle kit is included with both current 2-inch Impact™ and 2-inch Impact Max™ models.

Slide the hitch to the furthest shank adjustment hole.
Place the U-bolt over the top of the shank.
Align the bottom plate, install the two nuts and tighten.

Care and maintenance

Grease the coupler ball to reduce ball/coupler wear. Grease the hitch regularly through the grease zerk on the pivot bolt; frequency depends on use. Do not modify the hitch; modifications void the warranty and are at your own risk.

Discontinued: The bolt-on pintle hook SH-331-332 is not a current attachment option. For existing units and legacy bolt-on pintle/ball assemblies, follow the labels and instructions for that specific attachment.

Friction sway arm bar kits require an attachment with sway bar mounting tabs, such as the combo ball with sway tabs, drop ball with sway tabs or raised ball with sway tabs.

Kits and sway-tab attachments are sold separately. The standard attachments pictured above do not have sway mounting tabs.

Do not use with trailer surge brakes. Never lubricate the friction slide bar. Follow the separate manual for installation, adjustment, slippery-condition precautions and backing clearance.
