Shocker Hitch Story
The Story of Travel Lite and the Shocker Hitch. Travel-Lite started January 1st, 2000. Before that, Bob Sagen, President of Travel-Lite, owned a company called ProChassis. ProChassis has manufactured race cars and sold approximately 60 to 70 cars a year since 1985. Bob Sagen personally raced cars and had been doing that for about 30 years. Through the course of racing all those years, he pulled trailers for many thousands of miles.
In 1990, Bob purchased a 1-ton truck with a service body on it. He thought this would be the perfect tow vehicle, and it was, except for one thing; it had a very stiff rear suspension, which in turn tended to break and crack the welds on the tongue of his trailer. That inspired Bob to get creative and weld up a hitch that had a coil spring on one end, a pivot in the middle, and a hitch ball on the other end. Viola! The welds stopped cracking, the trailer rode and towed better, and Bob was happy. Bob used it for several years; finally, the truck got old and worn out, Bob sold it, and that was that.
The Founder of Shocker Hitch is Bob Sagen. In the year 2000, Bob sold ProChassis and started Travel-Lite, and began to build car trailers. He found himself back on the road delivering trailers, wishing he had that old hitch back. This made him take notice that if he had this problem of a jerky, bumpy ride, then most people towing trailers also have the same problem. Therefore, Bob set out to develop a new and better air ride hitch. The first few attempts worked but were not adjustable for various loads. After three years of testing and improvements, Bob decided to use an air bag as the cushion; now the user can adjust air pressure for various loads, and the bumpy, jerky ride is gone. That is when Shocker Hitch was born.
In 2021, Scott Bintz, founder of RealTruck.com, Red Headed Rebel & RH Rebel Storage purchased Shocker Hitch. Since then, we have grown and become a leader of innovation and premium quality manufacturing. The team’s first goal was to have a smooth towing solution for every aspect of towing. Expanding on the original Shocker air ride receiver hitch and Gooseneck Surge® air hitch & coupler, Shocker Hitch has expanded with an Air Equalizer to add air ride towing to virtually any weight distribution hitch. Then we created a 9″ offset extender gooseneck air hitch for people needing extra cab clearance. After that, we moved into fixing trailer sway issues with our wide selection of ball mount attachments with sway bar mount tabs, making it easy to add sway bars to your towing setup. Next, we entered the 5th wheel camper arena, creating the Quick Air® 5th wheel to gooseneck conversion kits, allowing customers to both converted the 5th wheel camper to air ride and over to using a gooseneck coupler, which makes towing a bulky 5th wheel camper easier, smoother, safer, and helps protect the trailer frame. Then, for those wanting to keep their 5th wheel, we created the Quick Air® 5th wheel pin box. Next, we innovated by attaching sway bars to aluminum trailers with a clamp-on trailer sway bar kit. For light weight and small trailer towing, we created the mini Shocker hitch with a flip around design for managing various towing weights, which is also patent pending. During this time, we have been busy setting up Shocker Hitch dealers all around the United States, Canada, and Australia. In 2026, Shocker Hitch has over 45,000 square feet of space and is continuing to grow. With the latest patent-pending product, the Trail Force®, a premium air ride receiver hitch design for SUVs and service trucks, with the receiver in the middle of the bumper. While adding innovative products, we have also been expanding our manufacturing ability, which includes robot welding, laser, press, automated bead blasting, and upgrading a facility to do premium powder coating. Upgrade your towing with Shocker Hitch.
