The Shocker Air Equalizer allows you to easily add air ride towing to your pickup & camper that currently has an equalizer or weight-distribution hitch. Shocker Hitch Equalizer® adds air ride to your WD hitch in minutes. The Shocker Hitch Air Ride Equalizer for WD hitches bolts to your existing weight distribution head. Get safer, smoother towing every mile. The air equalizer hitch system for a load leveling or WD hitch helps absorb the road shock and cushions the chucking, tugs, jerks & sways you feel when towing a camper with a weight distribution system. Air ride equalizer fits most major brands of weight-distribution hitches. Way easier and less stress on you, your animals, truck, trailer, cargo, and equipment.
The built-in air ride system, along with the 4 bump cushions, directs the road shock through the air ride system, still allowing your weight-distribution hitch to work as intended, giving you a smoother and safer ride for you, your pickup, camper, and its contents. Plus, the additional advantage of the Shocker Hitch for your weight distribution hitch is the ability to adjust air pressure up or down when you’re towing different weights for the best ride and load control. This Shocker Air Equalizer offers up to 12,000 lbs gross trailer weight & 1,200 lbs tongue weight rating capacities. The Shocker Air Equalizer kit comes with Air Equalizer and an XR adjustable channel hitch for a receiver.
This is designed for pulling with a Pickup Truck or SUV with leaf springs. It will not work with SUVs or CUVs with coil-over springs in the rear. Manufactured by Shocker Hitch® USA in Jamestown, ND.

There are a few ways to determine this. You can either use tongue weight scales, or a commercial scale. Tongue weight scale - Simply place the scale beneath your trailer jack on level ground, and the easy to read gauge will display your tongue weight. Commercial scale - Your vehicle and trailer must be fully loaded and fueled just as they will be when you are leaving on a trip. Drive on to the scale with all 4 wheels of the truck and record the weight of the truck with the trailer attached. Then unhook the trailer and jack up the trailer tongue so there is no weight on the hitch ball. Record the weight of only the truck on the scale, which will give you your GVW (gross vehicle weight). Now subtract the GVW from the weight you got with the truck/trailer attached. This will give you your tongue weight. With weight distribution hitches you will need to do a little more measurements. You must get the weight of the gear behind the rear axle, weight your truck with and without, to get the weight of the gear. Add the gear weight to your tongue weight and you will get the what your weight distribution hitch must support. (Ex: 1200lb TW + 200lb total weight of gear = 1400lb WD must support)

The Air Equalizer has 5" of rise and 2" of drop.

If your truck can handle the tongue weight of the loaded trailer than the shocker air hitch will work. If your truck does not carry the tongue weight then you would need the air equalizer depending upon how low the ball needs to be.

When used in SUVs with coil overs, the hitch and the coil overs tend to work against each other. In them working against each other it usually end in an unsatisfactory ride.

Yes the Air Equalizer will work with air bags. This is because air bags and our hitch work in 2 different directions, air bags are for vertical and our hitches are for the horizontal surging.

Our Equalizer would work with your setup! But taking into account the amount of tongue weight you have with your minnie winnie, the weight distribution is probably not needed. Our Shocker Air Hitch would be more beneficial to your set up and also works with other trailers. Thanks Gjordin

Hello Todd,
The Shocker Air Equalizer can help with those issues. It uses the airbag to help filter out the bouncing and jerking motion.
Thanks,

Thanks for reaching out, Todd. For the Shocker Air Equalizer, you would need a weight distribution hitch head to mount to the air equalizer. From that weight distribution head, you would indeed disconnect your trailer the same way you do now.

You would want to let the air out if you are storing it separate/unhooked from the trailer. If you are storing it hooked up to a truck and trailer under load/tension then you would leave it aired.
Asked by Randy Mikitko · 2023-05-11 · Answered by Ben Grindheim
The Shocker Air Equalizer is designed to absorb the forward n back jerking the trailer does to the truck. This jerking is where most porpoising starts when towing. In effect absorbing the jerking should greatly help with porpoising.

Asked by Eldridge Gordon · 2024-08-10 · Answered by jessica
It would be beneficial to release the air from the bag when it's not in use. While inflated, there is significant pressure that could make detaching difficult. Additionally, letting out the air helps prolong the life of the airbag and bushings by preventing them from being overstretched or over-compressed.
Even if you just let the air out to its natural level without manually squeezing it out, it will still be helpful. If you plan to keep the trailer and tow vehicle attached, this shouldn't be an issue, as the air pressure will be properly adjusted for the load and not overly compressed.

Please note that Weigh Safe manufactures their own style of shank designed specifically for their weight distribution system. Unfortunately, this shank is not compatible with our Equalizer system.

You have the right idea on your first point! Because our Air Equalizer attaches to an adjustable XR base, dropping the hitch down on the channel is the perfect way to get the main body of the air-ride unit lowered out of the way. This should easily give you the extra 1/2 inch of clearance you need to fully open your van doors.
To compensate for that drop and keep your trailer level, using a raised hitch ball on your weight distribution (WD) head is a great thought. However, finding a 2-5/16" ball with a 2" rise and a 1" shank is going to be extremely difficult, if not impossible.
The reason comes down to safety and physics. A 2-5/16" ball is designed for heavy-duty towing. When you add a 2" rise to a hitch ball, it creates a massive amount of leverage and stress at the base of the ball. A 1" shank simply isn't thick enough to handle that kind of force under heavy loads. Because of this, major towing manufacturers almost exclusively make 2-5/16" balls with a 2" rise using a thicker 1-1/4" shank.
Since the Air Equalizer is designed so you can bolt your own existing weight distribution head directly to it, here is what I recommend: Check the ball hole size on your specific WD head.
If your WD head has a 1-1/4" hole: You are in luck! Many heavy-duty WD heads come with a 1-1/4" hole and use a spacer/bushing to fit 1" shanks. If that's the case, you can just remove the bushing and buy a standard 2-5/16" ball with a 2" rise and a 1-1/4" shank.
If your WD head only has a 1" hole: You unfortunately won't be able to safely use a 2" rise ball on that specific head. You may need to upgrade to a weight distribution head that accepts a 1-1/4" shank to safely make this configuration work.

When completely setup and filled with air, it's meant to pivot between both sets of bump cushions, for equal cushioning effect in back and forth movement. Some air it up slightly more, pushing it further to one side.

CUSTOMER REVIEWS
I bought the Shocker Air Equalizer for weight distribution hitches because I travel to Colorado from California and back. I-70 between Vail and Denver beat my trailer to death. Every trip I was having to reinforce the breakage with stainless steel plates to hold the trailer together. After this last trip to Colorado I asked AI (Grok) does anyone make a device to help take the jolting and banging away from the trailer. And it gave me the info for the Shocker Hitches. The trip back home was great. No trailer slamming on the bridges expansion joints and road construction bumps. I wish I had known of these hitches a few years ago. The set up does have a learning curve to it. The important part is our trailer didn't sustain any damage on the way home.
I only recently began using the Shocker. I am pulling my 30' TT with a 2023 F250. I made the purchase in hopes of reducing the extreme rough ride driving on poorly maintained interstate roads. I believe the Shocker is helping by reducing the transfer of the bumps to the truck, but it can't help too much when you hit potholes. All on all I am glad I made the purchase.
makes the ride much better like a floating pillow
Wow! We pull a 25' Airstream and bought this after taking a 2,300 trip because it was a nightmare traveling over rough roads and bridge transitions, felling like the trailer was being ripped off the truck. There's a night and day difference now. So much smoother and waaaaay less stress.
Happy with the performance. On bad roads I can feel the dampening effect. When I see independent reviews with actual data I trust the physics of shock reduction more than my feel. Because I know the stress reduction in my rig is what matters.
The shocker 12k hitch for equalizer hitches does an amazing job of taking the whiplash out of towing my trailer. It feels like I'm just driving the truck around
Best towing experience i have ever felt. Nice, smooth and secure. Solid construction with a very nice customer service ready to answer all the questions on anything for their products.
Was the first time using if this past weekend and it fully exceeded my hopes how it work it made for a very comfortable ride on our 600 mile round trip with a 32 ft enclosed race car trailer and 22 ft class c motorhome made to ride and drive so much more comfortable and relaxing highly recommend
Worked as advertised reduced porpoising much smoother ride good investment for pulling travel trailer
Great hitch very impressed pulling the camper. I noticed it pulled better and less vibration in the camper. Things in the cabinets stay in place better.
1st off, I ordered this hitch around 9am in the morning, and before noon the next day it was delivered! Granted I'm only a state away, it was extremely fast! I've found that about 80# PSI works the best for my set up, it really does make a difference in jerking. I like that it has a 3 inch shank for my super duty.
Have not gotten to use yet....just waiting on weather to shape up and we can head out with the camper. Judging by the high build quality, I have no doubts that this hitch will not exceed my expectations!
Great addition to my towing setup. I have a F150 3.5 Ecoboost with a 25' 5000 lb. (dry) travel trailer. When I purchased the trailer, it came with a Blue Ox SwayPro weight distribution hitch. This setup was just okay. We felt every bump in the road. After a couple trips dealing with this, I then upgraded the trailer suspension with a Morryde Cre3000. This helped the trailer; we noticed less movement of items in the trailer. But on our last trip from NC to the upper peninsula in Michigan (2500 miles) we still felt every bump in the road. When we returned from this trip, I was determined to find a better towing solution. I purchased the Shocker Air Equalizer and added it to my Blue Ox setup. This solved the problem with the harsh ride. It softened the impact for every seam in the road, every bridge gap. My wife and I are impressed with the ride improvement. As for build quality, you will not find a better made product. This is the second Shocker product I have purchased, the first was not compatible with weight distribution. The first hitch still works like new after 8 years. The only improvement to the Shocker would be for the XR ball mount to have a longer shaft. Sometimes, my tailgate does not clear the power jack. I think another inch on the XR ball mount base would solve this.
Pulled my camper 350 miles first trip, could not believe the difference. Rode so nice , glad I purchased this!
Love this hitch. Wasn't 100% sure about it when I ordered, but it did not disappoint. Smooths out the bucking/chucking and makes for a much more enjoyable ride when pulling my travel trailer. Highly recommend.
We're towing a 33' camper with a 2010 5.7L Tundra. Camper came with a 2 point Fastway WD hitch. That and additional coil springs on top of the leaf springs did help with sag, but we still had a bad porpoising effect (push/pull between trailer and truck). That made for some carsick passengers, so I did some research and found the shocker hitch. It works great with the w/d hitch I have. The porpoising effect is negligible now. Hard bumps from road conditions and bridges are much smoother. I look forward to towing nowadays. I put about 35 p.s.i. in the hitch to lift off the bump stops. If you want a smoother ride with a w/d system, then this hitch is the way to go.
The ride with the Shocker and Equalizer/Anti-Sway setup is nothing short of amazing when setup correctly.
This hitch does what it says, smooths the bumps and tugs and makes a nice ride when towing your trailer.
I tow a 10k pound Travel Trailer with this and it is worth every penny. It feels like you're towing nothing when you hit bumps or pot holes. Only thing I wish is it had more than 2 inches of drop to it because I have a 6" lift on 37s (yes I know it's not an ideal towing setup but I bought the truck that way prior). I highly recommend this to anyone with a WD hitch setup, you won't be disappointed.
Towing is a pleasure !!! Thank you for your help to set up My new Air Equalizer. After two years and 25000 miles I can finally enjoy towing my camper. Thank you.
I'm pulling a 27' 4600# (dry) trailer with a 2020 Ford Ranger. The first time I pulled the trailer I was sure I'd have to get a new truck. But after getting the Shocker Hitch it made all the difference in the world. I am having 0 trouble with a squirrelly trailer now. What a difference. And the guys at the shop helped me every step of the way. Very pleased.
We sell and setup for our customers , I have sold 3 of these in the past 30 days and all three customers Raved over them , So for me as the Business owner of my company, Im blessed to have started selling Shocker hitches .Happy customers means better life ! :)
Does a great job Worth the money if you're on the fence deciding. Using on a ford f350 and a 33 ft travel trailer Makes ride smoother and quieter, that is simply what it does!
I have only pulled once with the hitch but have already fallen in love with the way it handles the rough roads. it is extremely well built and performs well
Great addition.. just drove 1350 miles with the shocker hooked up. What a noticeable difference. Have been recommending to everyone. The ride quality is greatly improved.
I purchased this for my 2008 Toyota Tundra (10,500 lb trailer rated), 12000lb Reese Strait-Line weight distribution hitch with trunnion bars, and 2013 35' Forest River Windjammer trailer (~8000 lb). I pulled from central Kansas to Colorado and back, about 900 miles total. PROS- It did help cushion the ride and made driving and riding less harsh. CONS- It is a lot of weight to lift and add at the hitch. The hitch has about 1" less engagement into the receiver on the Tundra than that used previously with the Reese which I did not care for. The cam sway control on the trailer, part of the Strait-Line w/d hitch, had to be readjusted as the geometry changed. The Reese head and ball had to be tilted down because of interference between the Shockerhitch and the trailer ball hitch, which caused the trunnion bars being much closer to the ground at the trailer to hook up. Previously I dropped 4 chain links, now it is 2 to maintain the same trailer hitch height. I still have plenty of clearance when towing but hook-up is a little more difficult. All 4 urethane cushions of the Shocker hitch are loose when connected as it should be, but it takes 100 psi (maximum pressure) to achieve this and the travel on the forward cushions is still less than the rear cushions. I did not realize it may be required to hitch the trailer, add air, tow, then remove air to unhook. Fortunately, I do not have to do this but others may have to. I believe the brand of the weight distribution hitch will make a significant difference in how many changes are required in the hitch and the fit-up with the Shockerhitch. The Dewalt cordless compressor works great with this hitch. SUMMARY- It does help the ride but expect to make adjustments to your weight distribution hitch when adding the Shockerhitch. The trailer handled great while pulling but I believe partial credit is to the adjustments necessary to install the Shockerhitch may have helped dialing in the torsion bars and sway control cams. Construction appears to be top notch. I would probably buy it again if I had a "do over".
Bought that very one. Super impressed with Form, Fit and Function... Heavy Duty... Absolutely saves where and tear on trailer tongue. I would do it again, I will recommend ! Thanks !
This hitch quality is superb. After installing it accordion to the instructions, the ride was noticeably better. All of the harsh, jerky bucking was gone. It greatly softened these reactions. I have a long trip comming up and that will really put it to the test.
Purchased my air equalizer for towing my 7500 lb. travel trailer. Installation and setup was really easy and straight forward. So far I've only towed about 15 miles to test it out, but I noticed a big difference as soon as I pulled out of the driveway. There is a very noticeable reduction in road bumps coming from the trailer to the truck. You can still feel the larger bumps (that I can't avoid) but I expected that and they are much less jolting in the truck. So far I'm very pleased with my purchase and I don't foresee that changing.
Installed on 3/4 ton short bed, pulling 11k lb, 37 ft travel trailer. Night and day difference. All but eliminated the bucking on hills in Northern Georgia and makes for a smooth ride. Hands down the best purchase I've made since buying my camper.
I am not able to use it as planned. when put together as a mock up with our Husky weight distribution hitch the ball is 25.5" off the ground. The RV dealership informed us that most RV trailers are at 22" . Since the shank only has a 2" drop , much to our disappointment, we were unable to use your shocker product. I contacted your help team and was told that they would speak with the company engineers to see if any other company has a compatible shank that will accommodate a 3-4" drop, but never heard back from anyone. I am very surprised that you only make 1 shank as everything when it comes to trailers definitely is not a one size fits all scenario. I spent $639..00 on a product we can't use and as of yet no one has responded to our problem.
Absolutely the best air ride hitch made. Period. Really cushions the ride on rough roads and helps extend the life of your rv. Great product. There are many different hitches out there. You get what you pay for.
So far we have done about 1500 miles on this hitch set up. I can say it is absolutely amazing!!!! In my opinion, it was worth every penny. It really feels like the trailer we tow (8500lbs 38' travel trailer) is on air and absorbs many of it not all the bumps on the road. You don't feel the jerking between the trucks and the trailer. Traveling on the High-Way is a breeze and the swaying goes away pared with the distribution hitch setup. By no means is the setup up cheap with the distribution hitch setup so make sure you buy the hitch lock asap. I have towed it with a 21 Ford 350, Ram 2500, and my DD Ram 1500 with bags (All diesels). Every single one was amazing with it.
I love it, makes towing so much more enjoyable! No more jerking and thumping from every road repair line on our good old Saskatchewan roads. Pulling our toy hauler camper with ease and comfort now!!! Well worth the buy!!
Thanks for a AWESOME PRODUCT !!!!!! Much more enjoyable and smoother ride while towing trailer.
This thing really does make a difference. I am using it with a 2020 GMC Denali HD, towing a Grand Design Imagine 2800BH. Even when the trailer rolls across speed bumps, it is not felt in the truck. .. AMAZING! Super easy to install. This was the final essential piece in my quest for a safe smooth towing experience in preparation for our 4500 mile Western trip in June. Had already upgraded the original tires and suspension.
Just towed my 9000+ lb rv trailer, very pleased. It removes that jarring effect from changes in road conditions and nearly removes effect from driving on bridges. This is what I was looking for. Thanks. Also hitch is heavy duty built .
Just received hitch but have not had a chance to pull with it yet. However, hitch seems to be very well made. Heavy , stout. Look forward to using it. My trailer is a 32 ft. Long 9000 + lb. Hope it performs as expected.
Thank you very much for the invitation :). Best wishes. PS: How are you? I am from France :)
I am towing a 35' long 9000 lb travel trailer. The Shocker Air Equalizer for Weight Distribution Hitch made a considerable improvement in the ride of my truck while towing. It was well worth buying.
All I have to say is WOW!!! Well maybe I'll says a little bit more. Before installing a Shocker Equalizer hitch, the ride while pulling my travel trailer was very rough and uncomfortable particularly when using my Blue Ox Sway Pro WD hitch. After installing the Shocker Equalizer Hitch with the WD hitch, the ride smoothed out and made longer trips very pleasant. I still feel slight tugging when driving in city and stop & go traffic but nothing like the whiplash I used to experience... the highway is where the Equalizer really shines...smooth as silk. Setup: 2013 - F150 with tow package. TT Tongue Weight 490lbs, Trailer Loaded Weight 4300lbs, Length 22', Truck Loaded Weight 6300lbs. Blue Ox Bars 550lbs
Have now used for about 1500 miles and it works great. I have a rear kitchen trailer was constantly dealing with things falling out of the fridge and cupboards. All that has stopped. You just feel like you are driving the truck over bumps and don't feel the secondary response from the trailer. I use a Blue Ox Hitch and it was seamless. My first clue was a I left a bottle of Windex on the Kitchen counter by mistake and after my first 20 mile test drive it was still where I put it. So far Great Product. Great product AAA
This hitch is large and heavy but it does reduce the shock between the trailer and the truck enough to make it worth it for me. If I had to guess this reduces the shock by 50%. Small bumps almost go away and big bumps are reduced. I am using this on a 2018 F150 with an Equalizer brand weight distribution hitch. I am towing a 21' 4000lb aluminum toy hauler.
Wow, what a difference in pulling my camper. This air ride set up really helps out.
Pulled my 12,000+ pound racecar trailer with this hitch on my 1 ton Ram truck on a 1544 mile trip, round trip from Kansas City MO to Belle Rose LA and back to KCMO. The Last 37 miles of the trip from Baton Rouge to the track in Belle Rose was like driving on rail road tracks the roads were so rough. Everything stayed in place inside of my trailer and for once all the screws actually stayed in the walls and ceiling and were TIGHT when I checked them. So this hitch definitely does what it's designed to do. It seems to absorb the road vibrations well, and made it a heck of a lot more smoother ride while towing! Thanks To the guys at shocker hitch for a awesome product!
