The two halves sandwich the extra-thick 5/16″ rubber and clamp down on four carriage bolts with serrated flange nuts top and bottom, so the assembly stays tight at highway speeds. The stainless frame wraps and finishes the cut edge so no raw rubber is left exposed to the heat, and the honeycomb pattern breaks up the exhaust flow instead of letting it concentrate in one place.
