    Spacer Block Guide

How do I know if I need a spacer block on my air receiver hitch? How do I know if I need a spacer block on my air receiver hitch? When your air receiver and trailer are hooked up, and the air receiver has the proper air pressure, the metal paddle above the air spring bag should be level with the air spring bag. If the paddle has more than a 10-degree angle when the air receiver hitch is aired up, a spacer block can be installed on top of the paddle to level the paddle and air spring bag. A spacer is needed when the angle between the bottom of the vehicle receiver and the top paddle above the air spring bag on the hitch is excessive. (A spacer block is used with 20K HD Air Receiver Hitches with a 2″ receiver (already installed) and some HD air receiver hitches with a 2-1/2″ receiver (Spacer comes in box). It is generally not ever needed with a 14K air receiver hitch, as the air spring bag is 1″ taller than the HD air spring bag.)

Safety Notice: NEVER exceed 100PSI, as this can damage the air spring or bushings.

When is a spacer block needed?

HD Space Block Guide - 2" and 2-1/2" Shank

    Additional Set Up Notes:

    • When towing heavy trailers or trailers with high wind resistance, it may be necessary to increase air pressure in the Shocker.
    • It is highly recommended that the hitch ball be greased to reduce wear and improve shocker action.
    • Ensure you have connected your safety chains and electrical cord before towing.
    • DO NOT TIGHTEN THE TOP BOLT, IT IS A LIMITER STOP ONLY.

Maximum Air Pressure: Do not exceed 100 psi in the air spring, as it may damage the air spring.

Will the Shocker Air Bumper Hitch work with Equalizer or Weight-Distribution?  If you have an equalizer or weight distribution hitch, then it will not. However, check out our Shocker Air Equalizer for weight distribution hitches. If you are just using friction sway bars that hook to a mini ball (such as the shocker sway control arm bar kit), then yes, if you also have one of our sway bar tab mounts, such as the combo sway control ball mount attachment

    Routine Maintenance Guide:

    1. Routine Lubrication
Pivot Bolt: Regularly grease the Shocker Hitch unit using the built-in grease zerk located on the main pivot bolt.
Over-Greasing: You cannot over-grease the unit; frequent lubrication ensures the air-ride pivot remains fluid and responsive.
Hitch Ball: It is highly recommended to grease the trailer coupler ball to reduce friction and prevent premature wear.
    2. Critical Adjustments
Top Jamnut Bolt: DO NOT tighten the top jamnut bolt.
Factory Specs: This bolt is set to factory specifications out of the box; overtightening will cause a stiff towing experience and limit the airbag’s effectiveness.
Attachment Swapping: When changing between different ball mounts (Combo, Pintle, Clevis, etc.), ensure the pins and cotter pin clips are fully seated and locked.
    3. Air System Integrity
Max Pressure: Never Exceed 100PSI in the air spring.
Component Protection: Excessive pressure can lead to permanent damage to the air spring or the internal bump cushions.
Pre-Tow Inspection: Always check your air pressure after loading the trailer to ensure the frame is lightly compressing the bump cushion.

Most of our standard bumper pull air bag hitches with not work with most SUV receivers due to them being recessed or "hidden" within the bumper this causes the air bag not to have clearance. We would recommend using the Impact series for your vehicle type.

I plan on getting a bigger truck (currently a ram 1500) and like the idea of just moving the hitch over and towing something heavier, rather than buy a new hitch. Which would you suggest?

      A

The nice part about our 20k Air hitch is it is fully adjustable to fine-tune it to the load you are pulling. So it would not be overkill at all for you. If you are running a lighter trailer you will just have less air in the system vs more air with a heavier load.

Well worth the investment. I’ve been towing medium loads for decades and with purchase of new truck needed to upsize my hitch (2.5″ receiver). I’ve been viewing air ride hitches for a while now and finally purchased. The ride is unbelievable. Even my son recognized the difference. If you are towing on a semi regular basis I high recomend.

Made a tremendous difference in my towing. Last 800 mile trip was horrific, this time, same trip with Shocker Air Hitch was 100% better! Unbelievable difference.

12K shocker hitch hauled new cf moto 1000 260 mi round trip. When pulling the empty trailer the hitch completely eliminated the clang of the trailer on ball during stops and starts. Airbag kept the vibration of trailer bounce to a minimum. Fully loaded trailer pulled like a dream. Little or no vibration from bumpy roads, flawless stops and starts at trailer ball. I only wish I had discovered shocker hitch years ago. Planning on adding the basic shocker to my new utv for pulling trailers.

Its a GOOD ONE!!! We traveled from Colorado to North Carolina round trip of 3500 miles with a 20′ enclosed car trailer weighing 8500 lbs. I averaged right at 11.7 MPG diesel. The best part of this is this, My wife and daughter said to me about 280 miles into the drive, (did you get new shocks or new tires) the truck feels a lot smoother. So when a college student who knows nothing about trailer towing notices the ride difference. That speaks volumes!!!!
The last trip to Chicago 1000 miles with same load hooked up with a good hitch that measures tongue weight. I averaged 9.8 MPG diesel fuel and a back ache. Not this time Better fuel mileage and a smoother ride as advertised!!!!

First use was a trip from south Florida to Knoxville TN area towing an 18′ trailer hauling a Jeep. Absolutely the most quiet and smoothest towing experience ever! Would recommend to anyone towing as trailer.

I purchased a Shocker Hitch with a 1/2″-4″ drop and combo ball of 2″ and 25/16″. I just pulled a 6,000lb+ load with an additional 1,200+ in the bed from the east coast to Colorado and back. The roads and bridges in most of the states en route are beyond bumpy and certain sections can bump you out of your seat. The Shocker Hitch did a phenomenal job over all the crappy expansion joints, divots, sinking concrete, undulating bridges, ruts, asphalt shifting, etc. It really smoothed out the truck/trailer and ride. A LOT! The other two drivers said the same after getting behind the wheel. My truck is an F350 dually and had an 18′ Big Tex with a 7k GVW behind it. It worked so well that I’ll be ordering a pintle hook to add to the hitch for my 14k GVW trailer ASAP.
With the 30 day money back guarantee, I had no worries about trying it out. After 4,500+ miles, I can attest to it working as advertised.

As always, the customer service Bob provides is second to no one. When was the last time you purchased a product from a company, had some technical questions and the owner of the company called you with in minutes to answer? I have purchased 2 air hitches from Shocker. I am very picky when it comes to quality and their quality is excellent. Very nice welds, quality paint work and outstanding engineering. I purchased this last hitch just days prior to a 3,000 mile trip hauling 13,500 lbs and it performed above my expectations. Both hitches have performed better than advertised and I am extremely happy with my purchases. This is not a BS review and I have not been compensated in any way. I rarely give a review of anything I purchase but Bob and his team always seem to go above and beyond for a customer. I seriously doubt you would have any complaints. Thank you Bob, Eric and Valerie!

This hitch is great. I have a 3/4 truck pulling a light weight open car trailer. The shock being transferred to the trailer was hurting the trailer.
The Shocker Hitch smoothed everything out. I should have bought this years ago. Thank you

I tow a 25foot flatbed and an18 foot cargo trailer. I was tired of the jerking motion into the cab when the trailer hits bumps in the road. This product is easy to use and does a great job at stopping the whiplash from towing. I regret not getting it sooner. Jordan D.

The shocker air hitch is so great. Once you buy a shocker you will not go back. Its built extremely well is and looks awesome. The bumping and jerking of pulling trailers is no more especially over railroad tracks. I really like how this hitch doesn’t hang way past the back of the bumper like other competitors hitches. Its not to heavy easy to handle, I dont need to buy a separate anti rattle, its adjustable for whatever weight your pulling so you can maintain as smooth a ride as possible. I love that all shockers stuff is interchangeable ball mounts and the ajustability is great. Cant say enough how awesome looking, functional, easy to use this hitch is.

I recently towed a car from the east coast to the west coast and back. On the way out I was getting beat to death by the trailer bouncing. A friend recommended this hitch so I bought it and contacted their customer service about shipping it to my friends shop in Cali so I could use it on the way back. The customer service team was awesome and got my hitch there before I even arrived. It installed in less than 15 minutes and on the way back was NIGHT and DAY difference. I would highly recommend this hitch to ANYONE who pulls a trailer it really was a game changer!!! Thanks Shocker for an amazing product and top notch customer service.

I have been on the fence for some time on whether to purchase or not.

I ran into an old friend that has a concession business. He had shocker hitches on his trucks. I asked him how he liked them and he told me they liked them so much, that they had them on all their trucks, and they tow big trailers all over the state.

I went ahead and purchased one on his recommendation. I only used it once so far, but I couldn’t even tell the trailer was there. I should have got one when I first heard of them.

I purchased this about 2 months ago, and have pulled our 28ft camper twice so far. Tows great, and first time after parking camper that I opened cupboards and refrigerator that dishes and food did not fall out. So much easier hooking up when do not need sway bars also. Also noticed a driver looking at our hitch as he passed us on highway, as he must have wondered why it didn’t bounch as much.
      Definitely would recommend this hitch.

I pull a 16 ft box trailer every day. It can beat you to death. The shocker hitch took all the whiplash and slack out of the trailer. So much so that there has been several instances that didn’t realize I had the trailer on.

I had a chance to put the shocker receiver hitch to the test and couldn’t be happier. Suspending the front of the trailer on an air bag completely changes how the trailer rides and handles bumps. The 5 link/coil spring rear end on the Ram, shocker hitch, and tandem torsion axles work together to produce an incredibly smooth ride while towing on rough Alaskan roads. Thanks for the great product!

Purchased the Shockerhitch for a 1500 mile trip to Virginia and back. Was at ease knowing the money back guarantee if I wasn’t satisified. NOT a problem. Towed a 4000lb 24ft enclosed race car trailer out empty and completely loaded (over 10k total trailer wt) to the back doors helping a friend move back to Missouri. No one knows how much they have until they need to move. Just adjusted the air pressure in the bag. Both ways very enjoyable ride, way less stress on myself as the driver. However the ultimate comment was made by my wife, the toughest critic of spending money when I already had a hitch that did the job, she could actually read while towing, when before she couldn’t do that on the last trip she rode with me. Congrats Shocker Hitch, one satisfied customer.”

Shocker Hitch has been the most economical solution to my rough ride while towing problems. Now when I am towing it’s like I am not towing. It feels more like I am carrying a load in the back of my truck. My truck actual rides smoother when I am towing compared to when I am not towing. Thank you Shocker Hitch for a great product!”

I travel in a rock band across the country and put on 40K to 50K miles a year.
I bought the Shocker about 3 years ago and can’t imagine driving without one.
It really smooths out the ride, thanks!

I rave about my hitch and encourage my friends to try mine. Last week I had to tow a car trailer 15 miles from work to town to get 300 gallons of water, in a water tank of course. I used the solid mount hitch that was sitting on the trailer, I came straight home to switch out to my shocker. It’s ridiculous how much better they work, “Thanks a bunch” I’ll never part with this thing. These hitches are as awesome as the others using them claim. I’ll never waste another cent on hard connection hitches.

This hitch has been by far the best investment that I have ever bought. I have owned this hitch for six years now, and it gets used very often. In fact, if you see me pulling my twenty foot bumper pull you can guaranty I’m using my shocker hitch. Whether I’m pulling my 1952 John Deere R to a tractor pull or hauling #10,000 of firewood off the mountain. The quality of this hitch is amazing. This hitch literally takes the shock forces away from my pickup and my trailer. The hitch is a little pricey, but it’s worth every penny. On behalf of my pickup, my trailer, and myself, thanks Shocker Hitch!!

Dear Shocker Hitch,I just purchased a receiver mount hitch and It works well. I would say it takes out at lest 50% of the shock from towing my Airstream.

      Thanks,

I purchased a shocker air receiver hitch after driving semi for 29 years. I am retired and pull a 20ft equipment trailer with my ford superduty F350. This hitch smoothes out the ride, especially when empty.
Thanks for a Great Product!! I am informing all my friends about it!

Your hitch is AMAZING! We recently had to move our son to Ohio, so had to rent a U-Haul trailer. We have a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and my husband is VERY fussy with his vehicles and knows what is is like to pull anything behind a truck and get jostled around in the cab with every crack and bump in the road. We bought the Shocker Hitch and loaded the trailer and off we went. It was such a smooth ride, we couldn’t even tell we were pulling anything. It was so nice. We highly recommend it.

I purchased the Heavy duty receiver hitch to pull my 27′ RV and a 20′ trailer for work. This hitch has been great. Not only did it stop the shock in the road bumps it also eliminated the shock in the starting to roll and the stop of the truck. This was one feature i did not understand when i purchased the hitch. This has made our travel so enjoyable. Thank you very much for you design and customer service.

I purchased the cushion ball a few months ago . It did what I was told it would do , It reduced the noise and vibration at least 90% from being transferred from my trailer to the pickup. I thought I had a trailer problem and was ready to give my trailer back to the manufacturer and tell them to put it where the sun don’t shine. I have pulled my trailer about 3500 miles and am very pleased with my cushion ball, Sometimes I forget my 30 ‘ dually tandem axle trailer is behind my dodge megacab.

“After purchasing your shocker hitch, I went and picked up a 20 ft car hauler (Many people saw my hitch at Becks trailers in St. Johns, MI and were amazed by it). Before owning this large of a trailer, I had the normal ball and hitch. I am a true believer about your hitch setup. The drive back from Lansing, MI to Peru, IN was so much smoother with a much bigger trailer then my last trailer which was only 12X6. Thanks for the help and I will be recommending this hitch to all of my friends.”

Thanks again for your help with my hitch and getting it setup before even shipping it. Ready to hookup and roll out.

I have been using the Shocker Receiver Mount for the past 5 years. I haul a VERY Rough Equipment Trailer with loads averaging around 8-10K. Prior to purchasing this hitch the trailer unloaded was miserable to transport. The heavy axles and frame transfer a tremendous amount of turbulence to the tow vehicle before buying this Hitch I almost took the trailer back! The hitch has performed flawlessly and I have hauled loads for thousands of miles. Today 8-20-15 I contacted customer support for replacement bushings the customer service was like the old days friendly and helpful something you cannot say about many businesses today so I want to send out a Big Thank You for your help and I will refer your product to those who ask and there have been many!

Being in the seamless gutter business, I pull a 6,000 pound tandem axle trailer on a daily basis, up & down the hills of western New York. Most of my driving is non expressway, secondary, and back roads. I would get jerked back & forth while traveling down the road. The hitch pin hole would wear oblong. After purchasing the “Shocker Hitch”, ALL the jerking back & forth disappeared while towing the trailer with torsion axles. I literally don’t know the trailer is behind me. If I didn’t know better, I’d have to look in the mirror to see if I forgot the trailer. The “Shocker Hitch” takes about 80% of the jerking out of my dump trailer, with rocker suspension. The “Shocker Hitch” is a GREAT product, well worth the money! MAY I ALSO ADD; Two or three years after purchasing the “Shocker Hitch”, I bought a new 2016 truck, and found GM changed the hitch design. “Shocker Hitch” was already on top of things. They sent me an up-dated steal plate(part)which I had to swap out with the original. Other than $10.00 shipping, there was no charge to me for the steal plate. HOW IS THAT FOR SERVICE??? Especially 2 or 3 years after purchasing the “Shocker Hitch”. Talk about standing behind your product……. I would have gladly paid for the part. I grease my “Shocker Hitch” once a week. When swapping out the steal plate, I found no wear to the moving parts.

Moral of the story; If your tired of being jerked around, get a “Shocker Hitch”. You’ll Never regret it.

We purchased our Shocker Receiver Hitch in 2008 and have towed our Arctic Fox 26J Travel Trailer over 45,000 miles with it. If you tow over concrete highways and suffer jolting or the dreaded “Ba-Dump Ba-Bump” from the joints in the slabs; This hitch is for you, any bumps, jolts and road defect impacts are reduced greatly. I am asked more times on the road about the hitch and how it works. We just sold our beloved 26J to some family friends and they bought a Shocker Hitch just like ours to tow with. Best hitches ever, we will never tow with anything else. We are looking forward to years of easy towing of our new Arctic Fox 25W with this hitch.

I want to thank the great staff at Shocker Hitch for offering such a great product. Eric was very helpful with getting me set up with the hitch that met my needs. I have towed with a just a ball, and also weight distribution hitch before. Doing this when the truck goes over a dip in the road you feel it in the cab, and again once the trailer goes over the dip in the road. I always thought this would cause strain on a truck frame. My Chevrolet truck suffered this by a cracked frame. I will treat my Dodge Ram 2500 to the luxury of the Shocker Hitch. This past weekend I was able to give the shocker hit a try. Hitched up, coffee, and 800 miles later… I am SOLD that Shocker Hitch is the best option for hauling a trailer. My vintage Airstream weighs in at 7700 Lbs. The trailer followed true and never swayed once. I do not have a friction sway control system connected to the trailer though the option is available from Shocker Hitch. I went over a lot of bumpy roads and never felt the trailer bucking like before with either a ball or weight distribution set up. SMOOTHEST RIDE EVER!!!
      Thanks Eric

I just want thank Bob and Eric for their advice and product supplied. I have pulled the same 16 foot work trailer for 10 years. I have worn out (2) all aluminum adjustable units and lived with the crash and smash at every stop and start! My new 12k combo unit pulls straight, is quite and ultimately separates the truck and trailer….I am a believer and hope to refer friends to your great products in the Toronto, Ontario area. God bless.
